Juxtapoz July Issue 1

In this issue of Juxtapoz magazine, they focused on the annual event/ reunion comic book enthusiasts known as Comic Con! If you haven’t been to a Comic Con event, I’ll have you know its one of the most fun, over stimulating experiences you’ll ever have. As exciting as Comic Con , it can be known to cause anxiety real quick. Luckily, in this issue, Alex Pardee and I got to give tips on how to survive your first Comic Con adventure!

Juxtapoz 2I had a fun time remembering all the characters and characters dressed like characters, from my past Comic Con excursion. You can see my photos from years of Comic Con-ing, in the current issue of Juxtapoz!

My New Favorite Energy Bar

19th June 2013

Last week, while I was at Disney, I passed that sticky thing on a stick that I see at every purchasable corner of Disney World.

The massive lollipop. It seems so intimidatingly sweet and oversized that I’ve never attempted to eat one but that day was different.

I had been up since 5am with nothing to eat and no clear view of when I would have a chance to get real food, in sight. It seemed like the most logical idea for how to regain some energy.

So I picked out the one with the most twists of fun colors and bought it!

I realized quickly that there are three important things to remember while attempting to eat a cartoon-like lollipop:

  1. Its not possible to fit it in your mouth, so choose only one side to lick
  2. If your milkshake brings all the boys to your yard, then your lollipop will bring all the children to where you’re standing in line for the Dumbo ride
  3. Your hair also may love it. Keep both children and your hair back, and the treat will sustain minimal germage.

I could only get to a certain point in the 2 hours that I spent working on it before it brushed up against a very sweaty parent and had to be thrown away but it was a fun time while it lasted.

Whats the last new food you’ve tried?

Flashback Friday: 10CC

7th June 2013

According to my Insagram feed, all of my friends have turned back in to wee children with the ability to use the internet, orrrrr its Flashback Friday! I wish I could use this pointless term to post music on that feed and be the old grumpy person that says “remember when music was written and played well?!”

Turns out that I can! So for this flashback Friday, I remembered how great this song by 10cc is and wanted to share it with you! It starts off with a beat and riff that reminds me of one of my favorite Damned songs, the abruptly turns into something with vocals that make it sound like a less operatic Sparks song, and the way the guitar riffs trail throughout the song, makes it almost as powerful as a good Led Zeppelin ditty.

My favorite silly lyric:

“You know the art of conversation must be dying when a romance depends on cliches and toupees and threepes”

A threepe?! oh, hilarity.

Oh Joy!

I got a bubble wand for $1.50, on a whim. I only intended to use it at the park to see how big I could actually blow them. Turns out the bubbles get so big and are so fun and colorful, that I couldn’t stop using them! My favorite place to use the bubble wand, has been at stop lights, while in the car. Nobody enjoys stopping, but it is a little more enjoyable when bubbles start floating passed you for no reason!

Heres some other little things that I’ve been enjoying in life, lately:
Fake floral things (like my Celia Birtwell skirt & origami ring!)

Reenacting scary movies in silly ways. (I would love for someone who works at Lush, to just come up to me and demand that I “put the lotion in the basket”)

Unintentionally matching outfits

Taking off shoes when entering a home, and seeing everyones socks

Ice skating in the summer timeThe feeling of warm rain on bare legsWaiting by the phone when you’re expecting a call from someone you loveFinding a shady spot to spend the day in the parkEating watermelon with a fork

Dogs in bags
Understanding my way around San Francisco, a little more all the timeFriends that just ooze with a unique personality When relationships evolve into entirely new chapters, within secondsWatching dogs try to maneuver with that satellite around their necks.Breakfast beverages

sunroofs! horseback riding, like city folk (and small children) dotaking a photo the minute someone blows air out of their mouth with loose lips.

My 28th Annual Birthday!

4th June 2013

I recently got to celebrate another birthday! I LOVE my birthdays because they typically are the day where I get to rescue balloons from party stores and take them around for a big day out, for their 8 hour life span. I had a lot of adventuring planned for them, so I needed a big breakfast.

So I had chicken and waffles! After we got the check, the kind of looney and completely sweet old man that owned the place kept stalling us and demanded that I refill my Pepsi. I happily obliged, and was soon greeted with a huge slice of red velvet cake and the “happy birthday song” being sung to me by a staff of people who sounded like they had just learned it 2 minutes earlier. It was a GREAT start to my day!

The day got even better when Alex gave me the gift of a clear umbrella, with my drawings on them. Since it never rains where we live, I wasn’t sure how much use we could get out of it in nature. So we went to the front yard, turned on our hose, and took cover under the bubble to test it out!The day got even better when I got to pick out balloons to rescue from the party store. I found the polka dot balloons to be the cutest of them all.

We put so many balloons into the car, that we had to replace the airbags! It was a clown car. Complete with clown shoes, seltzer water, and laughs! We brought the balloons to my favorite place in all of San Francisco, Japantown!
We ate Gyūdon and looked at merchandise featuring my favorite fictional character,Kiiroitori. (also known as, the fat duck emojicon, on my iPhone).   I think the balloons got a bit too excited, because they started blindly leading us all over Japantown! They were almost completely out of control! They spun me around and got so excited that they began making loud popping noises that kept startling me.Thankfully, Alex was able to wrangle them. Soon after, they settled down and told us that they were just growing impatient because they we’re hoping to catch a Pokemon, before we left. So we continued our day and our hunt for Pikachu!

Turns out, that the little Pokemon has grown into quite a large fella!Alex and I were having so much fun with so many balloons, that it seemed greedy to keep them all to ourselves. So we started giving them to others for their unbirthdays, but there were still SO many balloons!

So we met up with some friends and took them ice skating!Soon, all of the balloons were well placed and it was really fun to watch my friends skating around with a bright new accessory. I’m pretty sure its what helped everyone float around on the ice…because as soon as Alex lost his, he slid right onto the floor!I had a really great birthday and so far, its been a great new year for me.I may be getting older, but it continues to feel like I’m not growing up too much, because my best friend is there to support my decisions no matter how immature they may seem. Its also nice to have a group of people around me that are also really creative and supportive and silly.
