How I Greated My Trip To Portland

23rd July 2012

I’ve been to Portland, OR a couple of times, but never without an agenda planed out for me. Which is probably a part of the reason why being able to walk around the city on a perfect summer day, during my last visit is one of my favorite trips there, yet.

Portland was really great because of their:

great reading material

great record finds

from great record shops

great couples

great coffee

from great coffee shops

great toy finds

from great toy shops

great Mexican food restaurants

great fresh air

great photo booth results

great art shows for their first Thursday art walks

great big doughnuts

from the greatest doughnut shop

great beds for jumping

and great company to share it all with.

Eno-vember

23rd November 2011

You know how everyone you know somehow knows Kevin Bacon?

Brian Eno is kind of the musical equivalence of that. I’m pretty sure that everything music related, since the 70′s, can somehow be linked back to Brian Eno’s magical powers of inspiration/ production.

Early Brian Eno music has been saturating my apartment, subway rides, and time spent staring at walls, all week. Its been great! I’m enjoying it so much that I would like for you to consider dedicating some of November to appreciating Brian Eno, much like I have.

I would make a Brian Eno mix of my favorite songs, but I doneno where I would start! I guess I would pretty much just be copying the set list from his BBC Sessions.

  1. Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch
  2. Fever
  3. Wimoweh
  4. The Fat Lady of Limbourg
  5. Baby’s on Fire
  6. I’ll Come Running (To Tie Your Shoes)
  7. Third Uncle
  8. Seven Deadly Finns

Heres some Brian Eno related things that I suggest to make your average November into more of an Eno-vember:

  • Rent Velvet Goldmine and feel better about your life
  • Pretend you’re a martian on a different planet while listing to his “Before And After Science” album. (I’m pretty sure that’s what that album was made for)
  • Get memorized by his outfits during his Roxy Music days
  • Talk about David Byrne like you guys are best friends
  • Check out Built to Spill covering Third Uncle
