Oh Joy!

17th November 2011

I’m such a happy lady, lately! I don’t even know where to begin on explaining how I’ve achieved this ultimate joy, since its always the little things that do it, so I’ll start with a true story of one of those said things:

I was in Los Angeles a few weeks ago which involves a lot of highway driving. I don’t mind the driving/ traffic involved in these drives. Its more the highway scenery in LA that bothers me. Its so drab.

On one occasion, a friend and I were getting ready to exit the highway when we hit some unexpected traffic. As we drove closer we noticed a bunch of cars slowing down and swerving out of the way for what, at a distance, appeared to be a ton of tiny animals hopping along the highway.

As we became close enough to be the car that needed to dodging the moving objects, it became apparent that these moving objects were an assortment of different bouncing balls!! I kid you not! Footballs, basketballs, dodge balls, tiny hot pink bouncy balls, those translucent colored balls that are usually in Target and are too light to really throw. SO MANY COLORFUL BOUNCY BALLS ON THE 405!!

We both looked at each other and just started laughing at how surreal the situation was.

Now whenever it gets quiet for too long I like to break the silence by saying to him

“Dude! Remember that time we played dodgeball in traffic?!?

Heres some other things that I love about life:

Camouflaging my jewelry with my phone

Knowing that someone’s there to catch you, if you fall

Fish eyes that cover fake eyes that cover real eyes

When hidden cameras capture amazing moments

When people aren’t afraid to speak up and spell things out for you

Memorable talks during long car rides

Pizza parties!

Going to Grand Central Station at the rare time when it is almost completely silent

The smell of melting crayons

Pretending to be scary

Challenging someone who is holding back a smile

Huge clusters of objects

When my friends get random and ridiculous to get a rise out of me

Turning things into monsters

The artificial color of blue that radiates from swimming pools

Eating food so good that your stomach becomes bigger than anything on your body and you nearly explode!

Christmas lights that don’t get used around Christmas

Pretending to be an animal.

Especially if being that animal involves jumping!

Being able to act as a helpful assistant

Unnecessary illustrations

Freshly painted nails

Going to old diners with retro architecture (this one was Googie!)

Seeing something worth taking a second look at

The feeling of honestly not caring what anyone thinks of you

Books with lots of old images

Being destructive without causing harm

I Wuz Here.

26th October 2011

This has been my week, in polaroids.

Holding the photos that I’ve taken, after the fact, when they’ve lost all of their context is the most peculiar and exciting part of shooting.

I makes me realize that I find myself in some very unusual places.

Like, right now, I’m typing this from underneath the floorboards of Vincet Prices old mansion.

Thats only half true.

The Price is right…

Polaroid from my first beach trip of the summer(May 2011 in Malibu, CA)
Labor Day is such a finalizing holiday. Not only does it have some rude fashion rule over the color white, but it also marks the end of summer. What a bubble bursting holiday.

My contribution of the finalization that today brings, includes 2 things:

1) The final (also the first) “what I wore” outfit:

I don’t partake in these lady-like blog posts about the origins of my outfits because of several reasons. Mainly because I pretty much wear the same thing every day and its not very posh.

2) The final summer mix:

This morning, I tried to put together a pleasant mix of upbeat songs have a ‘winding-down’ tone to them.

2nd September 2011

Let me tell ya, trying post on your blog from the wifi that you pick up from sitting on a bus stop bench, is about as difficult & time consuming as it sounds. So although this post should have gone up yesterday, it didn’t. Ooops.

I consider New York City my home. As in, the entire city. The bus stop is my office and the subway is my playground (as shown above). I’ve really loved the past couple of months of traveling and coming back to New York. Here’s some other things that have kept me happy, recently:

Watching my favorite movie, on the beach

Always knowing were my cell phone is

tiny zines

tiny photos

Puffy skirts, for they vaguely remind me of jellyfish!

Starting an armada of robots to abduct my friends for me.

Solid objects that resemble bubbles.

Drawing portraits of friends, with friends.

Having physical proof of my week

always having some type of camera on hand

Photo Booths!!!!

silly postures

Seeing ex-goth kids wear white

The look on the postal workers face as he had to write out my confirmation ticket

piggy back rides!

fresh doughnuts

Looking out of windows during rain storms.

Getting caught in the rain storms.

Climbing!

Wearing silly socks. I make sure to buy new silly socks every time I know I’ll have to go through airport security.

The color combination: red and blue

All photos were taken (and drawn on!) by Chloe Rice

With the exception of the top one & photo booths

A Fly On The Wall at the House of Off The Wall

31st August 2011

House of Vans in Greenpoint Brooklyn is a fairly new venue/ skatepark that had been putting on free shows, through out the summer. A few weeks back, Against Me! played along side Tokyo Police Club, Japanther, and something called Big Freedia.

I went and took some shots of the space during sound check.

Asking what this weird knobby thing, turned Jay, from Against Me, into a toootal nerd for about 2 minutes. Let me completely butcher the way he explained what it does.

Ahem…Apparently, you attach the bottom side of this torque knob to the screws along the side of the drum head and turn it until the arrow is lined up with the number that you want your drum head to be tightened to. I believe his were roughly between 20 & 25.

We took turns twisting the thing over each of the screws, and although it serves no purpose in my life, it was kind of fun to use.

Weak turn out, eh?

Big Freedia was the oddest group there, to say the least. The entire show was pretty swell, though!
